Buddy paid to upgrade his wife. She left him about six months later. Divorce put a big dent into his bank account. So I wont upgrade my wife. I learned from his mistakes.

How many times does this joker use the term "Stone Mint Condition" in his non-factual description of this M42-- I've seen hang tags advertised for sale, and the 1936 era packing box, like the tag, look "too new to be true"-- And the details re the "Factory Letter" and the Zip code after 1963 are telling. Think I'll ask him if he has a Cody letter on this M42-- see what response I get, if any.RWTF

Well there are few if any Cody letters on Model 42s. But there were no Deluxe Grade M42s offered in 1936 either. And that gun has Skeet grade checkering anyway. Furthermore that is the worst looking pigeon Ive ever seen. Dad was a helluva gun collector.

Just for an education- I sent the gent a GB message, asking if he had a Cody Museum record for this M42-- his reply stated that Cody stopped issuing Cody letters on Winchesters after 1907-- with the exception of the M21's-- So- according to him- no Cody letters exist for: M12's, later M97's, M54's, M70's and M42's-- Strange, indeed. So I bought my upgraded 42. Will have the word upgrade added to it soon. Its a quality looking job with just a couple minor blems. It shoots great and will be a hoot in the Dove field. If I go to South America next year I may just take it with me. It would be a lot of fun shooting a few thousand shells at Dove down there. Might not rack up as high a percentage up of kills per shell expended, but the fun should be more than enough to off set a higher shell bill.
