I'll buy any gun that I believe I can sell or trade for more than I paid for it at the next gun show I attend, whether I like it or not. And I'll buy any gun that really interests me personally, if I think I can sell it for close to what I paid for it or more. If it doesn't meet those criteria... I don't buy it. So far, I've never experienced buyers remorse if I follow those guidelines. Upgrades should be clearly stamped as such, to prevent future fraudulent sales.

Hey, did this gun by any chance come from the estate of a dead German gunsmith named Gene? If you buy it, you could end up getting accused of White Suprematism by a white guy with lower intelligence than a hydrocephalic baboon.

That's easy. Extremely rare prototype specially built for Josef Stalin... later presented to Donald Trump by Vladimir Putin as payment for collusion... and found in a dumpster behind Trump Tower by Robert Mueller after being given a tip by Paul Manafort. Instant provenance according to CNN and MSNBC.

Years ago I bought an NID with a bunch of aftermarket engraving. It is still a Field Grade, but I think the engraving is very much in keeping with original Ithaca work...Geo

Nope.

Counterfeit money is produced solely to deceive and has no other possible use except as wallpaper. Upgraded guns are mostly, but not always done, not to deceive but for the enjoyment of the owner when he uses it for it's legitimate purpose.

Now, if you argue with me Ted, I'll make this thread go on for another 140 posts! laugh

The owner can be long dead and burried, and the estate can be trying to sell it as something it is not. If it is clearly marked and dated by an artist, that is different.

But they seldom are.

I could see some unscrupulous seller attempting to sell Geo's upgraded NID as some factory original special order gun at some point in the future. I highly doubt he raised his kids that way, but nobody can predict where that gun will end up when he is gone. Some upgrades are so over the top that virtually nobody would be fooled. But we've seen people who are convinced that their gun is original, even when there is overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I think Geo's NID would fool a lot of people including some who should know better.

I almost bought a NID engraved like that because it was a 28. Your engraving is much better I think. It was sad. Thousands of guns to work on and hey chose one of the rarer ones to learn on. And he was a slow learner.

Upgrades have just two basic values to me, the buyer's value and the sellers value. I'd figure there's a nice price advantage to buying upgrades in the secondary market. There's nothing at all wrong with walking away and not looking back. On an upgraded user gun, I'd be willing to pay more for the right combination of upgrades than I figured I could get out of it on resale. Those same upgrades might never have the same value to me if I were paying full retail.

Like I said, expect to lose and enjoy it while you have it.

Sterlingworth 12 gauge with exhibition wood, I dont really care how much you paid for the re-stock.

Out there doing it best I can.
