Did you ever think about buying an upgraded gun, knowing it was an upgrade being sold as an original? Somehow it just seems to go against the grain. I dont think this was a forged upgraded gun, to dupe a buyer as much as someones decision to get what he wanted, bar the cost. It might have been done by Pachmayr, slim chance it was done by the factory years after being made or one other gunsmith I know of.
Looking at a high grade gun, in near perfect condition. I am absolutely certain it is an upgrade. No factory records to confirm it. Everything is done to a perfect level which I would expect from the real thing. But I have found three very minor details which are not right. One I might give it a pass but three is too much. Proof mark restruck in the wrong place is a big one, two numbers of serial number double struck from the freaking up, and one other mistake.
Still, Im still thinking about buying it even with the warts. I intend to shoot it, not stick it in a safe as a collectible. To me its an upgrade which has no collectible value. Price is about what I am willing to pay. But as a shooter it is a looker and functions perfectly. A boob job on a gun is what my buddy calls it. Nice looking, but not real. But if I buy it I intend to somehow acknowledge it as an upgrade. Maybe have the word upgrade ?engraved on the gun so its visible when taken apart, but not in plain sight. Might just shoot it and let the kids worry about.
