If your gun is properly polished by hand and slow rust blued, it will enhance rather than detract from the value. The 6 power scope you already have is great, I wouldn't replace it. The mounts are a little problematical, the bases seem to have been spaced for a 4 power scope, which was likely the original scope mounted. Your problem very well illustrates the problems inherent in mounting different scopes on existing bases. Will the scope tip off at all? If it will, or will almost( without the objective bell hitting), you might be able to get by milling or filing the front dovetail to an angle to clear. I couldn't tell how much room you have, because the photo is cut off. If that doesn't work, higher front and rear "feet" may do the trick. If not, a new barrel socket will need to be installed farther forward, and the gap in the rib filled in. Changing to a 2-10 x 52 won't help, it will make it worse. Also, it will make the gun heavier. If the optics of the 6x demands replacement, a straight 4x ( or maybe smaller variable) will work better.

Go ahead and show the page. I have seen it written that it is a nettle leaf instead of oak, I just kept calling it an oak leaf. I used to get into burning nettle ( in Germany) pretty often, and the stamp looks more like oak to me.
