Give him a straight answer, "with a torch".
It's your gun, you can say it's improper if you wish.
Jeff This sure sounds like the best response to me!!

Please let us know of his reply.
I vote with Jeff and Roy - Simply say it was done with a torch.

Since he is a registered member here (although I do not recall anything he has posted here) it is quite possible he will actually see all these potential replies. I think he does monitor even if he does not post.

What? Are you worried about hurting his feelings? Tell him some schmuck used a torch because he didn't know how to case color with bone charcoal process. Then if another buyer asks explain the colors just don't look anything like the original colors.

We can't give Ed too much hassle. Ithaca torched guns at the factory. It's just "another process" as someone said earlier.

Perhaps you should ask Ed1 if he'd like to make you an offer on the gun since he won't have to waste his own time "freshening up" the colors with his own torch. Very good, got a chuckle out of this one!! Thanks!!! Greg

Perhaps this will be of some information? I just saw a redone Remington 1900 KED described, if memory serves, as "torch done" go for $2000.00 on Gunbroker. I deleted it from my Favorites list afterward or I'd refer you. I watched it for the very reason for which your topic is concerned. It was a complete redo and was started very low, maybe $150. It jumped right up to the sale price! Must be some that don't mind or don't know?
Best to you, Kurt

Just say it looks like the case colors on your Ruger Vaquero so you figure it can't be authentic. Trust me, Ed plays dumb when people ask about his guns.
