Hodgdon lists no 7/8 ounce loads with 700X, which is what I was referring to since that's what you asked about.

There are a great many loads listed by the various powder companies that are impractical, and since they can't test every possible combination there are undoubtedly some that would indeed work fine that are not liasted.

A 7/8 load with the CB-1100 and 15 gr. of 700X is a piss poor choice and either they tested it and found that out, or they had the sense to not even try.

As my original post stated, Im starting with their 1 oz load, and asking about if a 7/8 oz load would work with all of the same components beside that.

Piss poor in what respect? I want a light old-gun load using as much of what I have on hand as possible, and hopefully use less shot. Low pressure and slower than 1200fps is what I want.

I have some Clays, as well as some 4100 and 0175 wads.

I use American Select for 7/8 oz. loads when I can get it, but Clay Dot works too. Clay Dot does burn dirtier.

Physically, the load is of insufficient volume to be compatible with a Remington hull.

Ballistically, it takes an already low pressure load to the point that reliable ignition is questionable, and incomplete 'thermal decomposition' of the propellant is virtually assured.

That's sufficient to earn a solid 'piss poor' from me.

Sending these off to be tested in a pressure gun to 'save money' seems a tad illogical. You might prove their safety, but you can't make the combination practical. You'll have shot in your pockets and weird sounding shells..

700X is dirty and smokey at normal shotgun pressure. Why it survives in the market against the modern powders is a mystery.

As suggested, American Select and the CB-0178 would work just fine and save aggravation.

Use the stuff on hand to make loads it was intended for.

B.Graham:

I use Clays in both Remington and AA hulls and 7/8 ounce shot. The AA loads are at about 1175 fps, the Remington loads (used for sporting clays and a local international speed wobble trap game) are at 1350. Both loads are in a recent Lyman Shotshell reloading manual and probably on the manufacturer's web site as well.

I use the two different types of shells to differentiate loads for my older British sxs from the modern guns.

Can't help with the 700X information.
