To save money I shoot 3/4 in everything I load, 12, 16and 20. Just an almost test I set the trap for straight away targets. Started at 16 and kept moving back. Things quit working at the 25 yd line. That was with a 20 ga Bernardelli hammer gun with a tight mod. in the left barrel. 12 ga with .035 choke was so boring I quit at 22 yds. If I do my part at SC I can keep up with anybody. I load #8's for all clay games. Everyone I have let shoot these have been pleasantly surprised at lack of recoil and how well they break targets. I keep them all about 1150 fps and less than 8000 psi so I can shoot them in all my guns. They are pretty border line with semi-autos, those I usually loan out as I enjoy my old sxs so much more. ymmv
