I recall my Dad telling about going to see a man once. They were standing in the man's front yard talking & there was a dog lying under the front porch, a Border Collie as I recall. Dad was facing the house & said as they were talking the man turned his head, called the dog by name & said it's about time you brought in the Cows isn't it. They continued talking & the dog laid under the p[orch for a few more minutes. He then sorts lazily got up & went around to the back of the house, so Dad said he figured that was the end of that conversation.
A few minutes later he said he heard a dog bark behind him & turned his head to look & here comes that same dog bringing in a herd of cattle fro the Front pasture. He said he never saw him come back around to the front of the house, had no idea what route he took but he did as he was told.
Dad once had a border collie he could pick one cow out of a herd in the pasture & tell him to go get that one & bring it to the barn & he would go a separate it from the herd & bring it in.
