Hello Gentlemen:
I have a Darne R-17 model that is in very good condition except inside the barrels that are heavy pitted (maybe "eroded" es the adecuate word to describe the corrosion inside!). I do not have a gauge to meassure the thickness on those profound pits, but I do not want to risk a blow because the worst damage is in the forcing cones and between 15 to 20 cm in front of breach. It is a 12 ga and I decided to make a pair of long (25 cm) inserts and convert it to a 20 ga. The shotgun is very, very light, so an extra Lb because the inserts will convert to a 6 and a half 20 gauge shotgun.
The question is, could you recomend the adecuate steel to make those inserts? I have a lathe, tools and the ability to make the inserts, but comarcially there are a lot of steels with Cr and Mo, so what is the adecuate?
I really appreciate your advise.
Best,
Jose
