CrazyCrow has aluminum cases which are 64 and 72” long. Not easy to pack in a smaller vechile but should be fine in a truck or large suv. If protection is what you want they should be fine. They also have soft cases from $20 and up.

I think I've mentioned before that in recent years I've only flown with a Sportube ski case, and I have the usual decent hard plastic gun cases I could use. They telescope, and I wouldn't hesitate to use it if I had a longrifle as well as for shorter stuff. You have to come up with your own padding, but that's how I bring extra warm clothing along. I think there're three different sizes, so I think it'll easily accommodate the heavy drop in the stock. Only a thought, and at a modest price.

fallschirmjaeger: Thank you, that is my go-to grouse gun, a 16-bore William Richards from 1905. For additional pix, see my recent Great White North posts. craigd: I will look at the Sportube stuff.

KY Jon: just re-read this and saw your earlier question....yes, it is a lefty. I had it built in .45 to achieve a smaller and lighter profile. As it turns out, .45 is the minimum caliber to be legal for use on Pennsylvania whitetails. Haven't weighed it yet, but it's not bad....I'd guess under 8LBS?
