I purchased this as a "Loaner" gun.
I figured I would sweat on it during the heat of Summer
and use it in inclement weather when shooting in the Winter months

I paid a mere pittance, At $800 it's the least expensive gun in my modest cabinet.
I fitted it with a leather covered pad from a 7 pin 20 gauge Sidelock of long ago.
I found it to be a rather light and lively shooter that I enjoy every time I take it out.

A 12 gauge, 7 lb, 30", vent rib, double trigger Montgomery Wards Western Field.
(Read Miroku...read Browning)

Cost me the least, shoots like a best.

I also purchased a Garbi 101 12 bore with long 29 1/2" barrels to shoot on rainy days and in the hot humid days of summer here in the South.
Had Briley put tubes in and I shoot it better than my English Best guns.

Bob,
Nice find on that gun. Perhaps a definition of a best gun could mean the one we shoot the best!

I'm a sucker for leather pads, and that one looks nicely done.

Les Pitman
Best gunsmith west of the Atlantic.
7/8" depth of leather covered perfection.

It was a perfect fit on a 20 gauge BSS Sidelock.
For this Miroku maybe a 98% fit.
It pretty much bolted right on, screw holes were a spot on match.
Wood is slightly proud in a spot but what the heck.

Funny how that works! I have a Ithaca/SKB that I have the same ideas about. I have had better and I have had nicer, that said I seem to end up using it most, never given thought to selling it.

The pad is a very nice touch!

Least-er:

16 gauge Nitro Special. 1937 vintage, for 2 3/4” ammunition and so marked. Much hated 26” tubes factory choked CYL and MOD. I use it for grouse hunting in a few areas that require non toxic shot. Does everything I ask, and nothing more.

I know exactly how you feel, Bob.

Best,
Ted

Pretty bold claim. You've tried them all?

Les redid some work for me that another well known smith had botched pretty thoroughly. When it came back, there was no evidence of the repair. When Ivory Beads was in business, Les was their go-to guy for the difficult jobs. He is really, really good.
