I have had 3 shotguns that I seem to shoot equally well. The stock dimensions are different. Here they are:
WELOP 15 1/6 D@C 1 5/16, D@F 1 D@H 2 3/16
AyA12 LOP 14 7/8 D@C 1 7/8 D@F 2 D@H 2 1/16
Piotti KIng LOP 14 (ST) D@C 1 3/8 ? D@H 2
Someone remarked that the comb angles on the WE and Piotti were probably narrower than the AyA. Thus, my cheek was dropping over them a bit to effectively give me the same D@F as the AyA. Or, that was likely shooting the WE a bit high and didn't realize it. The Piotti had a single trigger.
Does this make any sense? If the comb angle plays such an important role in determining desired drops, why isn't it routinely measured and published for guns that are for sale and on gun fitting forms?
As I don't really understand pitch, I don't know how to factor that into the gun fitting equation. I have seen it on gun fitting forms and at least one seller publishes it in their gun descriptions (Fieldsport-Brian Belinski). Do you all ask the seller to provide pitch if it isn't published?
I'm trying to get a better understanding of my desired stock dimensions so that I can make a more informed choice among guns that are for sale. I have bought and sold guns that didn't fit and would like to avoid that in the future.
If you know LOP and drops at comb and heel, is there a formula that will give you drop at face?
Thanks for any help and advice.
