Twelve years ago and several times since I posted about my Dewson percussion 10 bore.
Have seen no mention of the name since. Perhaps I misspelled the name? Denson? Demson? Deyson?

An image of the name & also narrowing the gunmaking centre by the touchmarks will aide I'm sure.

Would gladly post if I knew how to add URLs. PM me at halka@daktel.com and I will send images.
This is an important piece in my motley collection as I bought it 54 years ago from an old railroad engineer who got it many years before that from a gunsmith in Steele ND who claimed he got it from the cook at Teddy Roosevelt's badlands ranch who told him he brought it from New York and that he had used it mostly for passenger pigeons. Could be BS of course, but the gun is very lightweight for a 10 ga.

In the Boston directory for the period, there's a Richard Dewerson, who was a gunsmith and dabbled in cow hides. But we really need the correct spelling of the name & the touchmarks to narrow the gunmaking centre.

Thanks for posting! I hope some information can be found. Do the proofmarks indicate any particular country of manufacture?
