Long-time friend of mine bought this from Steve yesterday:
https://stevebarnettfineguns.com/parker-2-shotguns-for-sale/parker-vhe-12-gauge-rare-12-frame

I have never, to my knowledge, held a 1/2-frame 12 ga. Parker, but I would have thought one would weigh considerably less than 7-7. My guess is the wood is pretty dense, from the looks of the figure, and heavier than usual.

The description says "pistol grip mint original" but I have never seen a VH with that kind of figure in the buttstock, or that checkering pattern. Also, the forearm is described as splinter, but I see a floatation pontoon in the photos. Maybe the wood is dense, or maybe lead weight was added to the butt to balance out the forearm. But I'd say the stock is an old replacement. I certainly agree that I'd expect a 1/2 frame 28" 12 ga VH to weigh much less than this one.

it is a nice Parker.

The recoil pad is near a quarter pound, as is the extra material to make that style forend.

My 28" DH 1 1/2 frame with a slim straight stock scales 6-14. Were it a pistol grip it would likely be 7 pounds even.

One would think a 1/2 frame would be used to make a light gun but someone had other ideas.

Still a beauty. I wouldn't kick it out for being mildly obese.

Not knowing all that much about Parker shotguns, I’d still bet money Keith is right about the wood. The stock and forearm just do not have the gestalt of originality.

I've seen the gun. It is all original. Actually, anyone that has a decent computer screen and halfway decent vision can see that is original Parker wood. It's never been off the gun, pretty obvious. I've been looking at Parkers for 40 years, and I have zero doubt about the wood, or the whole gun for that matter. If the Parker records show differently, I'll buy everyone here a nice beverage.

Something a lot of pseudo-knowledgeable Parker kibitzers don't know about half-frame Parkers is that they were usually spec'd out a little nicer for some unknown reason. I seem to remember an article in TDGJ way back about this, or perhaps it was a McIntosh article in either Sporting Classics or Shooting Sportsman. Long time ago...

Sorry but no dice on the originality thing. Look closely at the wood near the action. See the chips and voids that have finish in them? On the sides and on the bottom. If that is Parker inleting around the Deeley latch then the boys must have had a six beer lunch that day. The fore end has clearly been repaired, crack is easy to see on the right side. Not sure what the line running parallel to the action on the right side of the head of the stock is.

Well I certainly agree with Keith, that Ain't no Splinter forearm. I like that term Flotation Pontoon, have to remember that one.
