h0mie, I'm talking about self-opening Purdeys here, as my own Beesley gun has a different action - something contractual no doubt between those ol'chaps Purdey and Beesley way back when.

So how do you rate the age and staying power of the H&H Royal action and the A&D acton?

"Engineering pioneers," of ever lasting fame.
Webley and Greener - you tell me.
Taking Salopian's first two in that order.

When i visited the London gun makers, the fellow at Evans was extremely nice to me and quite knowledgable. More friendly than the startched staff at Holland.

Lowell, my opinions are exactly just that ' my opinions' that doesn't mean to say that I'm right.
At risk of losing any credibility I have to say Beesley was a brilliant Engineer and a fine craftsman.
Damn now I've gone and done it.
Lowell apparently an ice bag will take the swelling down.

Nothing bruised ol'bean, somethings made it into the twentieth century and beyond - some were just relegated to history.

What are the differences in the Purdey, Beesley and the H&H Royal sidelocks?

I'm sure Lowell can explain the differences.

Not being a student of workings or innards, I've no idea 1958!
I'm not really sure how the ol'boy(F Beesley) works - but it does.
...and thats all that counts in the field - perhaps at the rod 'n gun club, you'd have to be more on your toes with such things.
