Leo: As I will be living vicariously through you, please tell us about your battery. Thanks. TT

Leo, I returned from Zimbabwe a week ago today. Had a great hunt with no problems of any kind. Was able to collect a leopard, sable, kudu, zebra, and buffalo. Good luck and have fun!

Write something down every day. Get a Michelin Map when you get there and keep track of where you are. Shoulder shot, shoulder shot, shoulder shot! Break them down so they wont go far. Have a great trip. Harry

Harry, many scoff at the shoulder-shot for light-skinned game in this neck of the woods---deer, caribou and moose. Unnecessary and ruins good meat. Is it favoured for Africa?

King,
I have not been to Africa. I am regurgitating what my fathers Professional White Hunter, Norman Reed, had told him for his month long tent safari in Kenya and Tanganyika in October 1957. I agree with you that a heart/lung shot preserves meat and the deer I have shot there covered no more than 50 yards before folding up. One off hand shot at a deer taken at 125 yards with a 6.5 X 55 and 160 grain bullet hit high lung. I was aiming for the shoulder as there were other hunters in the area and I wanted the animal to fall where he stood. You know about "The best laid schemes of mice and men". The darn thing ran over two hundred yards before blowing blood and that was for ten yards before dropping dead. Back to Africa, the PWH wanted everything anchored and could have cared less about some of the meat being ruined. From my fathers account, all the beast were tough as nails and other dangerous things lurked in the tall grass.

Leo, you are surely airborne (or almost) by now. Do include pictures for us who dream about one day going too. Thanks in advance and have a great hunt. JC(AL) P.S. Am reading W.D.M Bell's "The Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter". 7x57 to the brain is the recommended recipe, JC

I lived in Kenya and Tanzania for a while. Great experience, will never forget it. Unfortunately, I never hunted either.... Will have to put Africa on the list.....
