Well, I promise more photos. It is a Sportsman. Didn�t know they weren�t one and the same, shame on me, but hey I�m a double gun guy . It is twice marked with an �S� and has a 26 in IC barrel with a dainty little vent rib. It pairs nicely with a super Savage 755 I have. If George will part with that Browning I�ll have a trio. I will use them as step one in my process to turn factory ammo into �Damascus safe� reloads.

Researcher - what is the yellow square in the bottom right of that add ?

"Sportsman" shoulda tipped me off. But hey, like Marks_21, I'm a sxs guy. When I was a teenager there were a lot more Remington A-5 clones than there were Brownings around. Kids with a rich Daddy had Sweet-Sixteens.

The fancy A-5 I posted was never mine. A friend of one of my sons inherited it from his Grandfather and brought it to me to evaluate. It was a WW2 bring-back from Germany. The kid was so wrapped up in birthing babies, he needed the cash more than he wanted the gun.

It was in pretty poor but completely original shape except for an added pad. His Grandfather had been a 'woods rider' back in the turpentine days and the boy had a picture of him in the palmettos on a horse with the gun across his saddle horn. I'll bet it accounted for a heap of quail.

I told him what I thought it was worth and trolled it around here a few years ago and on other gun sites until he connected with a collector and got the money he wanted. I thought he was nuts to sell it and I never considered buying it from him. I knew his Mama and didn't want to face her wrath for beating her kid out of of his Granddaddy's most prized possession...Geo

The Skeet will have a fuller �beavertail forend� and a skeet choked barrel. The barrel ahould be marked clearly with the choking.

I personally have been trying to put together a good sampling of the Remington model 11 grade offerings. I now have A through E. Still looking for an F.

Researcher is of course absolutely correct the Sportsman was not listed as a model 11. Had a Senior moment there when I said Sportsman Model 11.
As I do recall the Sportsman was introduced following the requirement to Plug guns to 3-shot capacity for migratory birds & Remington promoted this for all game by offering a 3-shot capacity semi labeled as "The Sportsman".

Best I have unto I find some more time.

Remington had some real cool light engraving on some of their Semi-Auto's. I picked up this old Rem Sportsman 58 with it's Setter and Quail Engraving for my Best Friend Lt Com Dan Kearns a little while ago. He guns birds with his Pump's and Semi-Auto's and when I saw this old 58 Remington, I had to get it for him for Christmas.

That yellow square Is a visualization of how Remington milled their solid and vent ribs integral with the barrel during the first fifty years of the 20th Century.

The Sportsman and the Model 31 Skeet Guns were introduced in the February 15, 1935, Remington Arms Co., Inc. catalog. From that time onward a SKEET choked barrel could be had on most any Model 11, Model 31 or Sportsman in addition to the Skeet Guns. Generally speaking a SKEET choked ribbed barrel on a Skeet Gun would have two beads while a SKEET choked barrel for any other gun would only have a front bead.

Is it marked "Sportsman ES" or are the 2 "S's" preceding the serial on the loading port and on the bottom tang?

My guess is the latter and which indicates "Sportsman".

The serial number before yours was finished on 1/26/34. Of course with engraved guns yours could have been at the factory some time there after before completion.
