There was something above the L, but it didn't stamp well on the rounded surface of the barrel. This gun has "Utica Special" on the side plates. I think we can add another name to the list of the Meriden Company's products: "Berkshire". If a person was looking for parts for a Meriden, Utica Special or A.J. Aubrey side lock, this listing on Auction Arms is for what I am pretty certain is a Meriden firearm and the condition of the shotgun should make it an affordable parts gun for someone.
