I have a new to me muzzleloader heading my way. It looks to be 150 plus years old. Might be a converted flintlock set of barrels. Any suggestions who would be a good choice to evaluate it for soundness to be shot. I can not measure 34 barrels with my current setup. Redneck proofing, tire and string system, to see if it holds up is not my first choice. Muzzleloading shotguns is a new area for me. Any recommendations?

Try this number and talk to Anson. 810-324-2577 You might have to try a couple of times to catch him. He has had a MLing gun store for the past 40 or so years. If he can't help he might know who can. Tell him Paul sent you. Good luck.

There was m/l gunsmith that worked at the NMLRA National matches at Friendship, IN every year. His name was/is Willy Boitnott. Wonder if he's still around? Willy was from New Carlisle, OH. He'd be over 90 now, if still living.
Another very knowledgeable, and much younger, gunsmith is Ken Owen, from Memphis, TN.

If these guys don't or can't for whatever reason, I'd bet they could tell you who could. http://www.dixonmuzzleloading.com/

Give Ken Netting a call, he is a master gun builder and may be able to assist you or point you in the right direction of someone who can. 614-855-9471

Just for Joe. If it was not for all the horror stories I have heard about proof failures I would consider have it cleaned up in Great Britain and reproofed (if needed). I am still considering it as a option. I bought this to use, not hang over a fireplace.

Interesting barrel contour, often seen on single barrel guns, pretty rare on a double. I like it....enjoy!

If it were me, I'd just shoot the thing and be done with it.
