Someone had that in mind in 1867 when they ordered a single-barrel 12-bore pinfire from John Dickson & Son. It's easy to discount single-barrel guns as beginner guns, but the Victorians had it right for walked-up game, when you rarely got the chance of a second shot. It certainly is easier to carry all day.
