It's not in Greener's "The Gun and it's Development " which is saying something. There's a lot of odd stuff in there.

Not much help in Crudgington & Baker Vol. 1 either. May be an experimental idea that was never patented. Very interesting as part of breech loader development though. Lagopus.....

Hmmm. Have a look at Crudgington & Baker Vol. 1, pages 144-145, for the description of the Joseph Hinton patent 2580 of 1863, a "hook bite snap action".
What a great looking gun!

I love odd action types and that is one for sure. Even as a pin fire it would be fun to own. If center fire I be certain to shoot it.

Steve Nash has it. The Hinton action description of the side lever version matches this Bissell. The side lever is smooth and easily pushed when opening the gun. Thank you. By the way, the gun is an 8 bore, another uncommon feature.

Yes, I have 50 custom brass shells. Enough for a full season these days. It is surprisingly light.
