Looks like a Vizsula to me. The most expensive dog is the one thats free.
Call me cold but if they cannot hunt they cant stay with me. My expeience is my dogs live 12 to 13 years, too long to keep a non hunting, gun shy dog.

You can always take up the most dangerous shooting sport in the world turkey hunting which does not require dogs. In places where grizz can be found having dog loose is real liability as it will bring grizz back to you and can run faster than you. The best medicina against charging grizz is to be with someone that runs slower than you otherwise you get to assume fetus position and play dead as it work its claws and jaws over your helpless body.

I don't blame you for being tired of the dog. You're feeding him and the bear out of that self feeder.

Not too keen on the word useless. Especially, without knowing more details.

I don't believe dogs are born gunshy. Case in point would be a friend ( I use the word loosely) than purchased a 3 month old dog from a breeder than I had gotten several dog from. He hunted with me and liked the way my dogs worked.
He called me later in the season complaining that his dog was gun shy. How did you introduce him to the gun I asked. He replied that he and three friends put some birds out and after the dog pointed they all cut loose over the dogs head. First exposure not good !

I know some dogs would never flinch at that experience, but that is not the way to find out.

The only way I would take a free dog is see him work in a realist setting.

Sorry if I sound hard, but the only reason I hunt are my dogs. Yes, they are GSP's , but they could be Pointers or Setters doesn't matter to me. I love all dogs that have a purpose.

I don't believe highly educated has anything to do with it. Look around with anything and there are what seems a majority of people who believe they can do anything. Men seem to be possessed with the meathead ideas of being naturally world class marksmen, lovers, cooks, whatever. Dog training falls easily into that, unfortunately for dogs.

Best dog I ever had was a free, riding-around-with-me kind of dog, a 65 lb. tri-color Aussie. I miss that old dog. "put another cat on the barbee..."
