Hello. First time posting on the forum. I purchased a used side by side shotgun from Simpson LTD. They advertised it as an AYA. The shotgun barrels indicate the gun was mad in Italy and it has Italian Proofmarks. There is no indication which manufacture made the shotgun but there is a stamp that is not a Proofmark. It is a shield with a star in the shield. Does anyone have resources in regards to the manufacture stamps? I have emailed the proofhouse in Italy that proofed the gun but they have not responded. Thanks

Lovely find. Interesting fleur de lis stamps as well as Crowned Gothic F? on the tubes. I wonder if the fleur de lis stamps were a control mark of Toni? At this juncture, the Italians were sourcing Liege for their pattern welded tubes. Is the last term "ROMA" noting T. Toni has a shop in Rome?
Cheers,
Raimey rse

Note how the inhouse marks mimic the German Proofhouse ones. I don't believe any touchmark below the PSF is a proofmark. https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-f...un_id=100974852Cheers, Raimey rse

Raimey, I think Roma was the location of Toni's shop. Daryl

I wish I could look at that 1969 catalog and read Swedish. Still no response from the Gardone proofhouse

XXV = 1969 manufacture date, the star above the shield is the mark for the Gardone proof house, the star above PSF indicates smokeless powder, the star above "FINITO" means definitive final proof and ready for sale,

I have been able to figure all that out. The question is the shield with star in it. I am assuming it’s a Makers stamp/mark

You can search an image on google. Go to image.google.com, drag your image onto the search bar and voila.
I tried hypersnap cutting the shield and star out, rotating it, enhancing it and pasting it onto google. The inside of the star is too vague to get results. I tried outlining the star on my Mac but didn't work. You might try taking a pen or marker...darkening the star, taking a high resolution picture of the image and then dragging it into image.google.com and see what turns up. I would think that a outline of the shield and star drawn on a piece of paper would work better.

A star within a shield is a Izhevsk proof mark. I have asked our Russian friend to confirm this and will post if he comes up positive.

I used to speak good Italian - it's pretty bad now but a year ago started to make this list....I didn't get very far. But I did try googling various words on the subject without success:' " -- shield - scudo -- star - Stella -- mark - marchi" -- stamp - punzoni -- fabbricante di armi - gun maker -- Marchio di Fabrica or "Marchio registrato" - trademark"; etc. etc. (I love this language - it just rolls off the tongue and makes you feel happy)
