I just found out my wife's family reunion was relocated at the last minute and I'm teetering on not going unless I can find some interesting things to do. We'll be there in late June. Any suggestions anyone?

Lloyd3,
Go to the reunion anyway, there is, for dead certain sure, going to be good food there, and there is good fishing everywhere in NC. Also, you will make points with your wife.

Der Ami: Probably not a bad idea (need all the points I can get these days). It's also a part of the country I've never been. Any decent gun shops nearby? My wife's family is lovely, but between the babies and teenie-boppers there are 20+ of them. A full-week of that is work. The bummer is that I was going to flyfish the Catskills on this trip, but they sold the VRBO estate out from under us in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Snyder: We'll fly into Raleigh-Durham and drive NE about an hour & a half. We'll be on Lake Gaston. Roanoke Rapids seems to be the biggest town of size nearby

I live about 70 miles south or RDU. Plenty of shooting here. Don't fish so no help there. There is a sporting clay course in Nash county-can't remember its name right off. I will post anything else that comes to mind. I am about 2 to 2 1/2 hours from Rock Mount, NC if you were up for a drive. Also could possibly meet at Drakes Landing or Kidds over around Lillington a little closer for you??
The Roanoke river is supposed to be good for fishing.
Hunter's point is the SC course I was trying to remember.

Just saw a show on great fishing on the Pamlico sound. Great touring on the Outer Banks,
Edenton NC a great town to visit. Much to see and do. Do a little googling.

Opinion take it for what it cost

Eastern NC has some very good light tackle guides. Personally I only fish the rivers near the fall line in the spring Striper catch and release season with top water popping bugs and flys. Never fish the big lakes. June inshore coastal is the hot spot for fly fishing. I know a very good guide based in New Bern, not real close to Littleton though, google Garry Dubiel Spec Fever Guide Service Half day trip is what you want, .

Severel good Sportiing clays courses relativey close to Littleton best is Drakes Landing .

Just figured driving time Littleton to Speckled Trout spots New Bern and east as far as Oriental NC on the Neuse River. You could leave early fish a half day and be back by dinner . Or the whole day and have a great meal In New Bern. Fresh water fly fisherman will adjust to Salt on Specs quickly. They are great gamefish and high catch and release numbers are very possable If there is a light tackle guide in Edenton I dont know about it. Get towards Manteo number of good guides, but Manteo is a very long way East. 3 hours at least and its bigger water few places to fish out of the wind

My boat we generally carry 3 or 4 rigged rods per fisherman saves re-tie and re-line time. Pair of 7 wt one intermediate other a sinker for specs. If Puppy Drum (Red Fish) are around two 8s or perhaps a 9. Rigged same way. The Drum need to be turned. Specs will pull a hook if the rod is too heavy. Guides like Gary have appropriate tackle. He is a very good fly tyer.

I fish Roanoke Rapids in the spring but Striper fishing with flys and poppers on top is strictly a during the spawn fishery. I use fairly heavy tackle for the fish weight so they can be landed quickly and released . 9 Wt mostly. Smaller males in the 3-5 lb class protect the much larger females aggressively. Big females wont take a,fly. Red hot top water first light until the sun hits the water. Then it shuts down. June not worth the effort.

The lakes may provide good sport but I think of them as deep bait spots. This with no actual experience.
