I just wish I could stumble into deals like a family friend has. I was at a gun show with the friend, he wanted this remington double for parts. the guy wont sell just that gun he has another gun with it (a double)not a name recognized but Dave fiqured the Remington would be worth it so he bought both for something like $500.00 bucks
We start checking this other double out & discover it is a French double that price listed for a gun that was junk was like $10,000.00 these numbers may not be exact but the relationship to of cost to worth are very close. Dave turned around & in a matter of just a week or 2 sold the french double for something around $8,000.00!!!
My uncle falls into deals very similar!! Its enough to piss off the Pope I tell ya!!

One can make a good profit off guns but but the real trick is to be the first buyer of a gun from the original owner or a decendant of that person. The higher up the chain you go, the less profit or gain (or return) you will likely make. That is where the knowledge and persistence pays off.

Or you can just be real lucky on a few retail buys and think you a gun buying genious. A sure way to eventually lose you ass. You know the old joke, "How do you make a small fortune on guns?..Start with a large one..."

The bottom line is buy what you like and have a passion for. Its OK to buy a gun simply because you really want it and plan to keep it.

Also, buy lots of books on the subject. You cant know too much.

I bought a Browning 22 auto for $200 from a guy walking around with it a show awhile back. It had some blueing issues but was otherwise in sound condition. I continued down the aisle and sold it to a dealer a few tables down who offered me $400 within 10 minutes.
BTW: Forbes magazine listed sub-machine guns as one of the best investments a few years back!

Eightbore and other have it. The money is made on "the flip", not in the long term buy-and-hold, except in exceptional cases.

Discounting the "enjoyment factor", the real ROI on most gun investment pales in comparison to long term returns in the market. What is often forgotten is the real cost to securely store (think safe w/ humidity control), properly insure, and maintain the guns. This eats into long term returns but is rarely considered in t people's mental arithmetic. And if you need to sell your guns quickly, you'll find that diversified stock and bond portfolios are much more liquid than fine guns. That is the cold reality of it.

I love to see the value of my quiver of guns increase like the next guy and I wouldn't trade it the money I have spent pursuing the guns for some more shares in Cisco, but go into the inestment process with a clear understanding of what you are trying to do. If it is PURELY to make money, I'd look to other avenues.

If you have $30,000 in guns in your safe, it is costing you over $1,500/year in lost interest in a bank CD.

Right, but, with out these guns, I probably will spend $7000/year going to bars, then another $200k for a liver transplant in a few years. You see, $1500 is a necessory expanse to keep me from the major expanse.

Buzzbee,

I'll let my wife know so she won't complain about wasting money by spending it on guns anymore!

I wonder if it is a health deduction on my 1040?

I started out with pinfire shotguns, then went English, then L.C. Smith,--- Then I fell in love with the Lefevers and all the others are gone except the pinfire. It all costs a heap of money but by going American, - at least I can talk to some one local about the guns.

Currently own two Morgan cars. Starting on Black Powder hunting to advoid the mob of riflemen.
