I don't think any of us enlisted looking for discounts, Ptrooper.  Maybe not even thinking educational benefits, etc.  But figured vets who'd been getting it might want to know they won't get it any more--at least not on guns, ammo, other shooting related stuff.  I look at the discounts from any businesses that offer them as a nice tip of the cap to vets.  Those of us old enough to remember the Vietnam days also remember very different treatment, so it's a welcome change.  Like people saying "Thanks for your service", which is also a welcome change (although I never looked for thanks) from the old, dark days.
