I find it hard to believe you could have matched it any better. Best thing about it is that it will take stain properly. I'm thinking about ordering a set myself. I really enjoy doing wood repairs on gunstocks. I've been trying to use walnut dust mixed in clear epoxy, but it's not entirely satisfactory.
Thanks again, SRH
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Fantastic work, Mark. I have some of that stuff, branded as a Mohawk product.
My initial question was about the concept. I dont checker myself, so Id have to talk someone else into doing the rest once I filled it in.

Yes it is a Mohawk product. It sands and checkers well. I use many of their repair products.

Really impressive repair Mark. Do you use dyes, stains, glazes or all of the above? Do you seal the recoloring with shellac or other topcoat? Tricky on checkering, without getting glossy or muddy checkering.
How to you handle color matching under an oil rubbed finish?

Vincent, thank you for the kind words. This piece was finished with TimberLuxe. I used a combination of Mohawk furniture repair products for blending .
