The forcing cones in the 32" barrels have been relieved and the chokes are now .030 and .038. I intend to polish the forcing cones and do a gentle cleanup of the barrels. As a working gun I am going to leave the metal as is and just raise the dents and apply a little finish to it. In the past I would have gone much further and restocked it and rust blue the barrels. But a working gun is entitled to its scars. It earned them. Lord knows I'm showing a few scars these days.

Bobby were your extractor barrels as different from the ejector barrels as mine? I had to have mine altered by a milling machine. Might have done the job by hand given a lot of time. Don't know if early and late barrels were much different for extractors and ejectors, they all were not an easy fit. One thing I learned is to inspect the face of the barrels a lot closer.

I cheated in picking a ejector gun which the barrels almost fit and having three orphan ejector fore ends to work with. To try this job with just any set of barrels would have been beyond my abilities and patience. Had I left them as extractors I would never gotten myself into half as much a challenge.

Steve, I'm not sure this set was like the ones you've dealt with. Most of what I have heard about, like the ones available from Pumpkin Mtn., are very rough and unfinished. Mine was bought from a gentleman who had three sets of these, years ago. They were chambered, ejectors fitted, rims cut, chokes reamed, rib matted, and roll stamped on the barrels. The only thing not done, besides fitting to a gun, was putting on a bead (or beads), and bluing. About .040" choke in each barrel. I chose the set of the three that was closest to my receiver breech ball width. They were within .001" the same width, the barrels being .001" wider.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll enjoy them.
