Really pretty bowie, jOe. I love that old elephant ivory, too. My buddy from Cornelia, GA, Ivan Boggs, forged my bowie blade in his little shop. He told me he wanted to make me a knife and told me to draw out what I wanted. I drew the pattern for the whole knife on a piece of cardboard, and he made it. The blade has 320 layers. I watched him spend almost a whole day just forging one blade and shaping it. The tang and guard on mine are all damascus.
Lloyd, those Campolin knives are very nice. I looked at their website just now. There is a lot to be said for being able to carry a dagger type blade in your pocket. I kinda like their "Maltese" design. There are so many it is staggering. I have some "assisted opening" Benchmarks, but they are really working knives that I use everyday, not "dress" defensive knives. Will the Campolin take a really good edge?

Stan: Until only very recently (like, last November), automatic knives could only be possessed by law enforcement here. Another classic example of politicians "solving" a problem we didn't really have. After "West Side Story", switchblades were banned almost nationwide. I just got this one last week (purely an impulse buy, I fear) and I haven't tried to sharpen it. Forbidden-fruit syndrome. The Campolins are the best I've seen so-far (in my ongoing unscientific survey). Hand-made in Italy to much better-than-average standards. This one has the bayonet blade, in a "pick-lock" configuration: I haven't seen one in Damascus yet. I suppose it's only a matter of time now.

I have examined few while at knife shop in EU. The sales people said the best factory produced automatic knives come out of California by company called Pro-Tech. From what I could see the product was first rate and according to salesman turnaround for fixing any problems was very short. The top of the line model was over 1000€.

"Switchblades" are legal in GA, and can be carried without a CCL if the blade length is under 5 inches. Any knife with a blade over 5 inches cannot be carried without a CCL.
Many interesting replies on this thread. Thanks.

A stiletto is used to stab, not cut. I would not "sharpen" a four hundred dollar switchblade. Those C knives are sure pretty.

I just received my Campolin stiletto switchblade this afternoon. What a knife! It's really big, at over 7 oz., but pocketable. It just exudes quality. I will take a couple pics in a little while and post them later this evening.
Bill, it is already very sharp on the cutting edge of the bayonet style blade..............nice for cutting a good steak, dontcha' know.
Thanks again, Lloyd, for the recommendation. I'm very pleased.

After the "big move", I haven't found my switchblade collection. Maybe I'll have to just bite the bullet and buy a new 13" Campolin. The 13" or 14" switchblade in my collection, don't know the maker, has a recoil like a ten gauge.

I would actually prefer that size over my old 14" models of unknown origin.
