Has anybody on this forum ever seen or owned one of the Galazan damascus boot knives? Is it decent quality, or some cheap India made junk? The pics are just not good enough for me to tell. I was thinking of calling and getting them to pack one up to bring to the Bray's Island Exposition next month. I like the looks of it, from what I can tell.

Stan,I've had one of these for several years and have had no issues with it. It holds a good edge once you get it sharp.
Have field dressed several deer with it.

If you like it, it doesn't look like you would be out too much. I suspect true rosewood is protected and if they knew the origin of the damascus steel, they would use it as a selling point. Another flag in my mind is the mention of engraving. Anyway, once there's a markup for retail, it may well be a cookie cutter import. That doesn't mean it's a bad product or that you wouldn't like it, maybe they'll have one available to look over without obligation to buy. Also, unless highly confident, I wouldn't appear to conceal a double edged knife. I hope I don't seem too negative, have fun at the expo.

Stan:

I've had one for years as well. They were dirt cheap when I bought mine (almost 15-years ago now), so my expectations were pretty low. When I received it I was fairly surprised by how nice it was. Too-nice actually, to have me regularly use it. God only knows where it was made, but I thought they did a pretty good job.

A boot knife! What kind of honky-tonks you hanging out in now-a-days?

I have a couple of dive knives that strap from my calf to my ankle that are pretty handy to get at...Geo

Appear to conceal? That's a contradiction in terms. It's either hid or it ain't. Besides, I can't tote this one concealed, 'less you can make me a center of the back shoulder harness like Crocodile Dundee had.

It get's pretty rough when you're Chairman of Deacons at First Baptist, Geo, and a feller needs a proper Sunday-go-to-meeting knife.

Thanks, Matt and Lloyd. With that rec I think I'll call Lou and get him to pack one up and bring it to Bray's Island.

See ya', SRH

I carry a 1911 .45 when I can wear a jacket or coat, or go with my shirt-tail out.

A man who picks his teeth with a boot knife is likely not gonna get picked on. wink

I abide by Col. Cooper's adage, anyway .............a pistol is only useful to fight your way to the nearest shotgun.

Geo, the current name for what you refer to as "honky-tonks" is South Georgia Knife & Gun Club. Fist fights and tractor pulls in parking lots were once featured but have been upgraded to hand held weapons, edged or ballistic, and tractor pulls are passe. Gil
