Wasn't Kurt Jaeger the uncle of Paul Jaeger, of 1950s-1980s fame?

Remington40x,
No, Kurt Jaeger was Paul's brother. Both were uncles of Dietrich Apel, the founder of the German Gun Collectors Assn. Franz was Kurt and Paul's father, and Dietrich's grandfather.

Nicely done, but not over done. I think it's perfect with the small touches of elegance here and there. A gun the owner could still take out and use, and not so fancy he'd be afraid to leave the house with.

The set triggers are a nice touch and the stock is nicely done with a very Winchesteresque schnable.

I presume that switch on the left side is second safety. Is that right? Is that there because the normal safety won't clear the scope bell?

I'm not getting much sense of it's purpose.

Yes, it's an additional safety and I don't know why since the normal safety does work.
I believe Kurt was Paul's brother and was the main gunsmith at Weisboden Rod & Gun Club.
This came from RIA and I now have another gun to get rid of.

Mike:

Thanks for the correction. I thought there was a relationship but wasn't sure of the details.

I grew up about 10 miles from Jaeger's and spent a lot of time there until it closed. Going there gave me an education in higher quality guns that I still treasure. I still regret not purchasing the 6.5x57R break action single shot that I lusted after and handled on numerous occasions. Way, way beyond my budget at the time.

I do still have a Bernardelli Gamecock 20 gauge that my parents and now ex-wife bought me as a law school graduation present and a Ruger Security Six Stainless .357 with a 6 inch barrel I got for a 30th birthday present there.

Is it still a .30 caliber? looks like the barrel is not original, so could something different I suppose.

Why are you getting rid of it, or did it come bundled with something less desirable?

I wasn't very clear about selling a gun, the RIA regional auction usually has guns bundled. This one came with a Husqrvana 30-06 that I need to get rid of.
The bulk of the '03 sporters made just after the war seem to be Remingtons and they also seem to be in 30-06 with the original barrels. They typically turned the barrel down enough to eliminate the rear sight spline. This one having a neat method by making 3 flats, if you look closely you can see the end of the spline just in front of the receiver.
The gun was real grungy and it all cleaned up nicely except for the bells of the scope which have some pitting from old leather caps, the caps did not come with the rifle.
I also wonder about the added safety as the wood is lighter in color around it and I wonder if maybe it was added after the gun was made.
