Does anyone have access to a shot shell primer brisance chart? I have looked and looked and cannot find anything besides pressure and velocity testing with the same exact load other than different primers. That is probably good enough, but what I really want to know is where the Cheddite 209 stands in relation to CCI 209, FED 209A, REM 209P and WIN 209.

Published, proven data is what I want.

Stan I use them with 209 Winchester data. The 12 is very forgiving. I do not load them in the .410 any more. Had three primer punctures in the .410 out of 500. Do not know if it was just a bad batch, a pressure issue, which I highly doubt, or just primer/gun issue. I've shot a lot of other type primers with that gun and had zero issues like that so I doubt it is the gun's fault. Also they tend to be a little harder to seat in some hulls than many other primers. I think the problem is that they are not as tapered as other primers.

Price can temp me to buy a different primer for reloading but with five or six different primers out there, and easily found, I just use them in the 12 and save "better" primers for the .410 like Winchester or Remington.

Just bought WW 209 for 115/ tube of 5000. It looks like the WW people have had enough of imports. There wholesale price is the same as any cheap import. The rumor I heard that they were building a new production line may have been true. No need fooling with unknown brands.

I've got a lot of Cheddites that were given to me, and was considering trying them in .410s. I'm about to begin working up a super-duper 3/4 oz. load with nickel plated #8s, possibly even buffered, at about 1100 fps. I've got data for the other four primers, but not the Cheddites. I've loaded them in low pressure 12s, even sent the loads off to Tom for pressure testing, but have no experience with them in the .410. I will send him some for testing, whatever primers I end up using. It has been my experience that Cheddites are kinda "middle of the road" brisance, but would like some hard data. I just can't find it.

I hardly ever load 12s anymore.

Brisance is the measurement of shock produced by different explosives and the word doesn't
directly relate to shotgun primers.

Primer makers use different primary explosives in admixture with sensitizers and other compounds to produce the temperature, duration and amount of hot gas they target for their product. Those are the important parameters. I doubt the ballistics labs would release specifics on their primers and even if they did, that we'd ould be able to decipher and compare one against the other.
