I'm looking for field grade to "mid grade" 16ga Darne made post 1964. I would like original configuration with some field use wear, but no beater with issues. Do you know where I can find one for sale? It's this or nothing.
16 ga. Darne's in the configuration and condition you desire are hardly as difficult as finding a unicorn. But no one is going to give one to you. I think there is a better chance that your friend King Brown will endorse Donald Trump for re-election than there is of you buying that Darne. Last week, your latest gun buying fantasy was a Colt .45 revolver. We all know that the closest you will get to that goal is this...

It was not a fantasy I just happened to read Last of its kind the USMC Model 1909 Colt in January 2018 issue of American Rifleman. I'm only interested in shotgun I mentioned if you know where I can find one for sale I would appreciate contact information.

If you really want the only kind of contact information that would really be useful to you, I can show you a pile of old tires to kick. They will be serving snow-cones in hell before you buy that 16 ga Darne, or a Colt .45 Military Revolver.

Keith I agree he, Doug, was very talented but he took a lot of extra effort that we just do not appreciate. We got to see his final efforts when he had it all figured out. I'll never know how he got the results he did but I do see a few British blackeners who do work of the same quality high gloss deep black finishes.
It must take decades to get it figured out and I would not expect anyone who does that to share more than very general suggestions. After all, it is their livelihood, not a hobby, and once out there everyone could duplicate their work for free. Doug could have sold his formula but could he sell his attention to detail and his technique?

I'll agree with that KYJon. Doug's formula could permit someone with far less talent to get a deep glossy blue-black finish. People gladly pay for commercial solutions that aren't half as good, no matter how carefully they are applied. I also noticed that a few British barrel Blackers had also developed ways to get a higher gloss that we were told was possible. That's what made me want to keep experimenting and searching for a better formula that hopefully wouldn't poison me or turn my shop into a toxic site. But it takes that attention to detail and the desire to do it right or not at all that is that intangible thing no one can sell. Doug shared many of those secrets, and even gave many of them to Tony to publish to support his wife and kids, but few people have the patience or talent to pull it off.
I've seen a ton of very deep and shiny hot blue jobs that looked like crap because some idiot shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near a buffing wheel. One was an 1895 Winchester in .30-06 that was only good as a shooter or a source of internal parts as far as I was concerned. Every visible surface of wood and metal was FUBARed. But I was stunned when it sold at a local auction for nearly $1800.00. Of course, there are fools who will think the case color job that is the subject of this thread is a thing of beauty too. It's the same mentality that thinks a vote for someone like Obama or Hillary Clinton isn't an anti-gun move.
I had to sneak that in there, 'cause it's true.

Keith, ever see what poorly refinished Winchester model 12 bring sometimes? Stupid is what stupid does and stupid does have money to burn.

Original Stevens cyanide colors In A Gada Da Vida colors The fit (or misfit) in that top photo looks positively scary. Just one of the reasons I'm glad I got rid of mine.

More appropriate heading would be who wasted their time on this. Stevens 311 or Savage equivalent has about zero appeal even if found in 20ga. I have seen something similar with .410 barrels stuck on 20ga frame just an awful gun.

Yeah Jagermeister, let's talk about zero appeal. It's almost as big a waste as getting double gun advice from a gun counter drooler like you... a guy who doesn't own even one lousy double shotgun... not even a beauty like this. Go drink another Colt .45 and go back to fantasizing about guns you'll never buy.
