This gun does not have a mono-block that I can see. The Damascus barrels appear to form the chamber with the lock mechanism being part of underside of barrels.

I have seen pictures of mono-block Piepers this looks different. The stock must have been handled with care receiving periodic coats of oil.

There were two types of Pieper mono-block barrels. On his original the breech piece was bored with a slight taper
& the barrels inserted from the rear. There is a step down at the end of the breech piece. At least some of these are marked Diana.

Mine is the 2nd type & is marked Modified Diana. On this type the barrels are inserted from the front & have a smooth transition (No Step) from the breech piece to the barrels as in modern day mono-blocks. On this one the barrels are actually threaded in & only go about about half way through, thus the chamber is partially in the mono-block & partially in the barrels. Yours would appear to be a higher grade gun so may be chopper lumped, not certain if Pieper used that method of joining barrels or not.

Cornell Pubs has lots of Pieper resources

If you would post a full size up close image of every mark on the barrel flats and just forward of the flats we might be able to provide a date of manufacture, or look here

As fine a upland bird gun as was ever built. A early Charles Daly 12 with 28" cylinder bores. Wild Texas quail.

Cant believe a photo op with dead quail is worth marring the trigger loop on a rock....next time you do photo ops find something softer than a sand stone rock to put your gun on.

Who said he marred the trigger loop ? Maybe he's careful. Don't be so quick to make a assumption.

The following are pictures of the H.Pieper double, my first hammer gun. My first attempt at attaching pictures to this site.

When I purchased the shotgun a few years ago it's only issue was it was missing the right hammer and screw. Fortunately for me I had a gun builder friend that was a true artist. He was willing to make me a new hammer and hammer screw, matching the engraving present on gun.

He also checked the wall thickness and choke diameters to confirm that the barrel dimensions had not changed. He pronounced everything in shooting condition with appropriate 2.5" low pressure loads.

While I tested the gun by shooting 2 boxes of Vintager loads, after reading the negative comments regarding H.Pieper on internet sites I put the gun away in the gun safe.

In reviewing the information discussed on this site I decided to bring the gun out to use with my GSPs during preserve scratch hunts. I realized after my first trigger pull on a bird I was hooked.

Thanks everyone for the information provided.
