I think I would be classified as a gun "hoarder". I like to try a lot of different styles and makes. Having a revolving collection allows me to get a taste of what I like and what works best for me. I find now, that I seek out guns that will fit into each 'niche' of bird hunting that I do - however, this is probably just an excuse to buy something else. Once I find the guns that are what I 'really like', I think my collection will become more specific. Though, by the time that occurs, my tastes will probably have changed and the process will start all over. Sure is fun though...

No. An elitist is not someone that owns an expensive gun, rather it is someone that "looks down his nose" at those that own lesser ones(and expresses the disdain). Mike

I have a different experience with elitism. I work with men and women every day who are among elites because they are exceptional in competence and character, leaders who excel by their example. People who believe they are what they own can't cut it in any league.

One can be eclectic without being elitist. I would like to think I'm the former. But whatever. I'm trying to figure out what my next, "last", "go-to", everyday, shotgun should be an where I'll find it and can I ford it. I don't know what this really makes me but it does give me something to do during the winter when times are slow. I do know, it will be a 12 gauge with 2.75" chambers, or longer. Unless it is a 20, maybe, possibly but probably not a 16. It will be pistol gripped unless maybe it's not, probably 28," chokes something like modified/full or a little looser, Nitro proofed, probably not germanic, signficantly less than 6.5 lbs. Old. Maybe American. Maybe kind of different (hard to explain, but folk art engraving, Darnes and other things all attract me). Does this make me a hoarder or a collector? I don't know. More importantly, does this ring any bells for anyone? I'm still working on finding the money so it may be a while.

People who believe they are what they own can't cut it in any league. We can walk away from a material goods elitist any time we want. You know what happens when an elitist of 'competence and character' imposes their 'leadership' on the peasants that they look down on? Unfortunately, it's a much different experience.

Excellent statement there Craig........Should be framed and mounted on the wall. A truer statement has never been said.

Skilled is one thing but elitism is a different kettle of fish. The elites are busy ruining both my country and yours. They seem to develop a tendency of telling the rest of us how we are to behave.

It might be ok to be an elite but they’re generally the first ones hanging from light poles during a revolution.

I have given this question a lot of thought and concluded that I'm an accumulator. There was a time when I was a collector of Colt double action target revolvers, but that was many years ago and an unfortunate election result in the state in which I lived at the time led me to send the collection off to auction, where I realized a small profit on the collection. Fortunately, shortly after that, I ended up moving to a far more firearms friendly state and commenced to buy things that intrigued me, without any particular direction or theme. The end result was a motley assortment of handguns, rifles and shotguns. Only the shotguns get a regular workout today, as I no longer shoot bullseye pistol or informal bench rest and my rifle hunting is confined to a once a year deer hunt.
I'm of an age now where I need to downsize and have begun doing so, although at a much too slow pace. It was a lot of fun finding things that grabbed my interest and playing with them for a while. And at least until recently, I could pick up new toys without worrying about disposing of older ones.
This hobby really is a lot of fun and the opportunities to enjoy interesting mechanisms and beautiful hand work are almost unlimited.

Where citizens feel powerless to change things, defer to authority and let others crap on their heads by letting others do their thinking for them, the description above is accurate. lonesome is closer to truth but only where revolutions are lost. It all depends where we see ourselves in the pecking order.
The progressive changes we've seen in both our countries over the last 50-60 years have been so fast and fundamental to be revolutionary i.e. US civil rights and Canadian medicare. Today, the hundreds of millions in the streets over the last few years are realizing they must organize to make things happen.
All the protest is a perfect fit for elites in the Oxford and Cambridge dictionary definitions: "a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society." The hoi polloi is fertile with elites toppling old and unintelligent ways of doing things.
Citizens who think of themselves as part of sovereign communities and take their responsibilities seriously don't buttle to anyone. Those among them who are "superior in terms of abilities or qualities" to remove unwarranted governance are elites.
