I'm with Doug on this one. I've seen some Belgian doubles that a few friends have that have that "quality" look. Disc set strikers, hidden third fastener, engraved breeches, gas vents, fine checkering, and the screw behind the trgger guard has a guard/lock screw. It should look great with some work.

Lovely offering by an upper rung maker. Quality choice. The retailer attempted to mask the EW initials on the water-table.

I have an Emile Warnant SLE 16ga I got from one of the members of this board that is of a quality far higher than these guns sell for. As a reference, a couple 12ga EW guns have sold on Gunsinternational in the last year or so in good original condition for $2K+.

Yeah, many times the end retailer would mask the initials of the actualy maker by overstamping. On the GI offering you note,

you know I don't see anything that points toward Francotte, unless I'm missing something. I see that mechanic Joseph Cap, Acier Arquebusier Cap, lent some tube effort per his craft.

I know next to nothing about Auguste Francotte to make comment on origin of that piece. The gun quality is high and using Francotte name in USA brings more traffic to the listing. Seeing specs of that gun it begs a question why do we need 16ga guns at all?

We need 16 bore for the combination guns that we covet so. A 16 bore has better geometry that placing a 12 bore in the drilling configuration.

The engraving is tastefully designed and executed. Very pleasing. No corners were cut in building this gun. The sidelocks appear to have intercepting sears. Bet they are beautiful inside.
