Yup, Frank, way too high. Someone suggested $750 but a quality double gun with gaps around the top tang is like a quality double gun with a 12" stock or "trimmed" barrels.

Bill, thats why its not in my safe. At the time I was looking at it I was thinking 500-700 max. It will sit on their rack with the other beaters for a long time and the price will come down. This is the same shop where I got that pristine Ithaca Lewis 16ga at a good price. They are really a bunch of nice guys there, they just honestly think its worth more than it is.

That is too bad. The price is not even remotely realistic.
Eightbore, I, and some few others on the BBS can take credit for touting Lindner's rarity and quality sending asking prices thru the roof. We should have just kept it to ourselves and gone on searching !! LOL
The pity here is that the gun would only be what they are asking if it were in good condition now. No one will pay that and then put it to rights. Shame.
Best,
John

$2500 - Youch! In retrospect I thought my initial assessment of $500 - $750 range might have been a tad on the low side (hard to tell how much corrosion is really there) by a hundred or two. But $2.5K is out in left field. Too bad.

Other retailers did sell Daly guns (e.g., Prybl Brothers, etc.). Obviously these retailers had some type of business arrangement with SD&G. It makes sense that SD&G would want to broaden their sales distribution channels.

In regards to the buttplate, I think the simpliest explanation is the most likely - the same ham-fisted smith who buggered up this gun slapped on the first buttplate that sorta fit from his stack of butplates (from previously butchered guns) in his shop - just happened to to be a Husky plate.

Come on Ken !!!
Must all my flights of fancy be brought to earth with a probably valid explanation???LOL
Makes me remember (groan here) my late wife's question when I bought or did something she questioned. "John, do you think that is wise?"
Lord knows it was often not wise, but to let thoughts or actions fly with the eagles is great fun !!!:}
Oh well. Back to thinking about Golcher.
Best,
John

Just for the heck of it John would you care to estimate what it would cost to put it back into sound shooting condition(minimal cosmetics)as I proposed in a earlier post on this thread?

I'll try but you understand that the location of the smith that does the work, has to be factored in the estimate. So--- Add or subtract as you consider this.

Strip, clean and check for broken or missing parts. $135
De-oil stock and glas the head if needed. $25 if done at home.
replace Husky plate with new horn. $50/65 but not necessary here.
Make new spring if replacement is necessary and available. $75/100
Remove ejectors if not functioning and cannot be repaired. $0 as this is easy and can be done at home.The gun will then be an extractor one.
If patterns are needed for parts, I will be happy to help. A thank you will be enough.
It should be possible to apply a bit of sweat equity and $350/500 to bring it to a safe condition if all is as described
At that asking price, it would be then well worth $1200/1400.
You all know what I think of Lindner guns. But, see my post on worth vs value. There are millions of worthy shooters out there.
There are few that would be worth putting more money than a gun's ultimate value.
Perhaps someone will buy this one, for the asking, and do the deed. Pride of ownership of a rare and great gun I can understand. What befuddles me is the thought that I would have to pass over a great miniature decoy to pay for it.:}
Hope this helps.
Best,
John
EDIT----- I meant that after the gun was brought to safe and good shooting condition, it still would be worth a grand less than the present asking price. If brought to glorious cosmetic and mechanical condition, about a bit more than the present asking. It is, after all, an ejector gun and built by one of the great masters of all time and place.

Stock,fit,checker and finish~ $ 2000.00
Wood - french ( possibly some New Zealand " english"~
could get by with $ 200-400 stick for that grade gun
Reblacken ( B&W pattern) damascas~ $ 275
Repair all mechanicals ~ 250.00
Clean, polish, color case harden ~ $ 300
clean polish,blue furniture ( cold rust/ nitre ) ~ $ 250

only a guesstimate: If you're handy,( I'm not) you could take off about $1000.00 from the restocking cost if you can do final inletting, and finish yourself.

just my $.02 worth,
best regards,
JBP

I should have added a smiley face to my last post John :-)
Your explanation on the possible story behind the buttplate was more interesting than mine.

As for the cost of getting the gun "up to speed", I think it really depends if you are just looking to get the gun in shooting condition or want to address the cosmetics. As a shooter it could likely be done for a couple hundred bucks tops. To address all the the cosmetic issues, one could easily spend several grand. You could spend that on stock alone.

Ken:
I am clairvoyant and knew the smiley was there.:}
The question was what might be the outlay, in cash, to make it a shooter. LOADED (yep, intended) question but gave it a try. Seems that we agree on that point.
Question---am I close on the value if a shooter with cosmetic flaws?
What does the Italian Ambassador to Arizona think?
Best,
John
