I'm new to this forum but I have just acquired an interesting gun I can't identify and could use some help. The stock has a helmeted man's image and a rosette, the barrels are 38" long, and there's plenty of proof marks but being new to antiques I can't find definitive info online. Early marks from the proof facility in St. Etienne. Number in the oval is bore with respect to the French pound. Lovely styling of the stock, possibly a Swan's neck variant?

Thanks, Raimey. Any idea of the year or years this might have been made?

The marks seem to bound it between 1824 & 1856.

The bore to the French pound is 30, AR was the tube mechanic & the firm just might have been S&G. Looks to be an etched on pattern, so I'd have a long look @ those tubes.

They also stamped AR but with a crown above for guns that they proved at St.Etienne that were of foreign make. ellenbr is probably correct if there is no small crown mark visible. Lagopus.....
