The 1982 Gun Digest had a good article on Colt's shotguns, including the hammer models and the 1883. Altogether they were only produced for about 10 or 11 years as I recall, making them fairly rare by American standards.

Paul: I sent you 2 e-mails, and my PM function still does not work. Could you please post a close up of the damascus pattern for the PictureTrail, and any other Colt damascus brls you might have? or send by jpg attachment to revdoc2@cox.net Thanks so much! Frank: I assume it was OK to include your pic in the 'Colt and Remington Damascus' album and thanks also. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery.fcgi?p=999&gid=17067005Drew

Paul,
A very nice Colt, do you have a factory letter on it, some of the letters on the 83 can be very interesting.

Michael, I've never tried to letter it. Who holds the records? The only history I know is that I found it in a shop in Williston Vt. in the early 90's. Paul

That's the address I have, need to be aware that the 83 letters are at least $100 nowadays.
