Looking for a Christmas gift for my 8 year old Grandson.
He loves to shoot but his hand eye coordination is lacking yet.
Wondering if there are any wingshooting video games out there.
Perhaps something with a shotgun barrel and flying birds in the picture that you have to establish lead to hit when you pull the trigger.
Thank you,

BB gun and a 2 liter bottle tossed in the air was my go to when young. I often shot "heavy" by dropping another 2-3 BB's down the bore and pumping it 30 times. I've since stopped that practice.

Any local clay courses? I would buy him a membership there. You would then have an excuse to go every week yourself

Don't underestimate an 8 yr. old's eye/hand coordination. They will surprise you. My eight year old grandson broke the first clay bird he ever shot at, a quartering away presentation, with a .410. Get him off by yourself, I mean really alone, and explain to him the reason for lead. It will surprise you what they comprehend.

Also, buy a copy of "Focus and Fire", a DVD by Bill McGuire, and watch it with him, away from all potential distractions. Best "down the rib" views of lead I've ever seen. Invaluable to a beginner, and a seasoned shooter as well.

Thanks, all good info.
I have had him shoot at doves and he did manage to kill one.
I did also take him to the beginners station at the Sporting Clays range.
He definitely is a bit behind in his coordination level.
And we don't get to shoot together often.
And as a Christmas gift I was hoping to find some interactive wingshooting game.
I will look into Focus and Fire for sure,
Thanks again.

When I grew up my father had a ten year old or one hundred pound rule. You had to be one or the other. In part that was to make sure you could hold and use a gun properly. I think his point was that a 50 pound kid is going to struggle with a seven pound gun with full recoil. When I wanted my kids to start clay target, Skeet, shooting the first thing they learned after safety was how to pull targets. In fact I had them pull hundreds of targets and watch every one of them from out the window to past the fence. It taught them how to see targets and by seeing hundreds of them it slowed them down. They got use to target speed and flight.

When they started shooting it was with a 20 ga. 1100, shooting 3/4 ounce reloads. First shot was low seven then high seven. After they mastered those I went right to station one and started them on a regular round. We did this with no others shooting with us. That way they did not need to feel nervous. After a few rounds they added doubles into their rounds at 1,2,6 and 7. Station 8 was added last. It took my middle son 15-20 rounds before he ran his first 25 his little brother longer but he had a number of 24's which just about drove him crazy.

Funny thing is when they wanted to try Trap they sat behind the shooters and watched a few rounds first, to figure out the birds, before they shot their first round. It comes natural for them when shooting Sporting Clays to watch the birds when others are shooting in front of them. They learn by others mistakes and by what they do correctly.

If you can find a Nintendo duck hunt game it might work. It's a old classic game . Might be pricier $ since it a classic no longer made but can be bought
