Don't underestimate an 8 yr. old's eye/hand coordination. They will surprise you. My eight year old grandson broke the first clay bird he ever shot at, a quartering away presentation, with a .410. Get him off by yourself, I mean really alone, and explain to him the reason for lead. It will surprise you what they comprehend.

Also, buy a copy of "Focus and Fire", a DVD by Bill McGuire, and watch it with him, away from all potential distractions. Best "down the rib" views of lead I've ever seen. Invaluable to a beginner, and a seasoned shooter as well.
