Stan, what I mean is that the advantages held by the super-rich today can only be maintained by convincing a vast majority of ordinary people to vote against their own and the country's interests. It helps that aim if the populace goes to crummy schools and is massively distracted with bread and circuses. It takes a lot of really naive and foolish people to vote themselves into our present sorry state. Voting for Lyndon Johnson was voting against the best interests of the US. Voting for George McGovern was voting against the best interests of the US. Voting for Jimmy Carter was voting against the best interests of the US. Voting for Michael Dukakis was voting against the best interests of the US. Voting for Bill Clinton was voting against the best interests of the US. Voting for Ralph Nader was voting against the best interests of the US. Voting for Al Gore was voting against the best interests of the US. Voting for John Kerry was voting against the best interests of the US. Voting for Barach Obama was voting against the best interests of the US. Voting for Hilary Clinton was voting against the best interests of the US. Since JFK, any vote for the Democratic candidate or leftist independent candidate has been a vote against the best interests of the US. Your "naive and foolish people" have been those who voted Democrat.

I'll just remind canvasback that it was a Republican who invaded Iraq and killed 5000 American troops and hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. It was the worst single government act since Vietnam-- for which both Democrats and Republicans bear the blame. Enjoy your tax cuts.

What does that have to do with anything we are discussing here, Bill? The specific action you reference, with 20/20 hindsight, appears to have been a mistake....a mistake supported at the time by almost all members on both sides of the aisle as well as the vast majority of Americans. George Bush had one of the highest approval ratings ever when those decisions were being made. Are you making the point that mistakes can be made? If so, I'll grant you that. My point is that business as usual for Democrats has largely been against the best interests of MOST Americans. White, Black and everything in between. Socialism is like that. Bad for all. Just look at Venezuela these days. What should be a economic and social paradise is a disaster of, I'd like to say unprecedented but it's not, it's just what happens under socialism, proportions.

The State is bloated. On both sides of the border. And it continues to grow regardless of who is elected. I support tax cuts of every sort for every citizen, every time. Are they always fair? No. Are they always the best cuts that could be made? No. But the only way to rein in the bureaucratic beast is to cut access to cash....cut off the funding. Doesn't help much to elect a different party. Money is what counts. And more of it needs to be left in every citizens pocket, any way it can be done.

BTW, want to talk about the destruction of education in jurisdictions that typically elect Democratic politicians? Want to talk about the long term and concertedly cynical effort to create a dependent, poorly educated and hopeless population who are dependable Democratic voters?

What exactly is an ordinary American citizen? Anyone can make a fortune here with an idea and hard work.
What did those two multi millionaires say, "Where else in the world do you go when you only have two nickels to rub together and an idea, America."

This is the kind of corrupt dependence liberal politicians look to achieve. The socialist do-gooders have been winning. The locations are from my home province of Manitoba. "FN" stands for First Nations...what we used to call Indians and reservations. Do the math....
The city of Thompson, Manitoba with 13,446 residents pay their mayor, deputy mayor and council members a total of $80,474.45 annually for taxable salaries and per diems (the mayor's annual indemnity is $29,745.45 per annum, council members are paid $9,915.15 per annum and the deputy mayor gets $11,068.40 per annum).
Brokenhead Ojibway Nation with a registered population of 1,918 paying their FN chief and band council members a total of $415,357 in TAX-FREE salaries AND per diems plus $1,557,766 in tobacco and fuel tax rebates.
Long Plains First Nation @ Portage La Prairie with a registered population of 813 paying their FN chief and band council members a total of $539,918 in tax-free salaries and per diems.
Little Grand Rapids First Nation with a registered population of 1,590 paying their FN chief and band council members a total of $706,182 in tax-free salaries and per diems.
Buffalo Point First Nation with a registered population of 126 paying their FN chief and band council members a total of $300,000 in tax-free salaries and per diems.
Shoal Lake No. 40 First Nation in Ontario with a registered on-reserve population of 293 people paid their FN chief and band council $267,799 in tax-free salaries never mind $58,930 in tax-free expenses.
Mathias Colomb First Nation with a registered population of 3,192 paying their FN chief and band council members a total of $601,726 in tax-free salaries and per diems.
Samson Cree First Nation with a registered population of 8,059 paying their FN chief and band council members a total of $2,149,998 in tax-free salaries and per diems ($266.78 per capita).
Fort McKay First Nation with a registered population of 827 (Its not a typo, its 827) paying their FN chief and band council members a total of $2,067,098 in tax-free salaries and per diems, never mind $151,428 in travel expenses ($2,499.51 per capita). Chief Jim Boucher was paid an annual tax-free salary of $644,441 tax-free ($53,703 per month), AND tax-free expenses of $35,359 ($2,947 per month), AND tax-free other remuneration $25,000 ($2,083 per month) AND tax-free travel expenses of $60,157 ($5,013 per month)!!!!! Per month!!!
Enoch Cree First Nation with a registered population of 2,469 paying their FN chief and band council members a total of $1,159,707 in tax-free salaries and per diems never mind $84,030 in travel expenses ($503.74 per capita). Also, Enoch Cree First Nation are also paying their Board of Directors $1,511,457 in tax-free salaries and tax-free expenses.
These are the kinds of things that happen when those writing the cheques are using OPM......other people's money.
Cut off the funds.

I'll be glad when this political rant of a thread ends. Discussion is useless. My country is so politically divided that we no longer disagree with one another; we hate each other.
My team seems to be winning lately. That likely won't last...Geo

George, I'm really only concerned with the money. Money, power and bureaucracy drives all the ills of government that we usually ascribe to this party or that. It doesn't really matter (comparatively) who wins elections.....it's the money that's the problem and both of your main parties spend it badly.
