Long rant, skip it if you want.

Replacement you are so right about that. I use the term Doctor Money because too many people think doctors make more than they do. The problem with that is that they also end up in massive student debt up to 500k. They don't start making real money until after age 30 while their friends have been working and earning decent money for five to ten years already. So at 30 you buy your first home, a couple of cars because that beater dad gave you is worn out, then need to start your family because the old biological clock is ticking. It is not out of the question to end up with 800k to 1 million dollars in debt at age 30. Now your income will pay that debt down over 20-25 years and then you can hit the retirement saving big time so at age 60-65 you have a nice sum to retire on. Along the way you can take a few nice vacations or be a idiot and get divorced to start it all over again.

How do I know all this. I've lived it myself. I am a Dentist and my wife is a MD. I worked six days a week for 17 years, 66 hours a week, I work 38-40 now in semi retirement. My wife still works 50 plus hours a week. We have paid for five college educations, two advanced degrees and two medical school educations all out of pocket, plus our own. What chaps my butt is that I can't deduct any tuition I paid for my kids college because I earned too much. Well duh. If I did not earn too much I could never afford to pay it in the first place.

So when some pimpled cover kid comes along and tells me I make too much money, or am a racist because I like the outdoors or guns, or claims it's not fair he can't get a free education, including advanced degrees, all at no cost to him I want to wring his neck. Better yet I tell him there is an easy way to do it, join the military. They will pay for everything all the way to advanced medical degrees and surgical training. It just cost you about ten years military service. We all know there is less than zero chance that pimpled cover kid will ever join the military.

End of rant, and yes I feel better now.

Did you leave the part about physical harm against you out, or was 'vehemently' still a dialog? Did 'vehemently' mean your voice was shut down, or were you still able to spread subversion on campus? The good ole days were great, maybe you can start a trend of 'progressives for free speech', because in today's world, tolerance for traditional values is severely lacking. What was wrong with the 'classic notion of liberal arts'?

from wikipedia:

Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality.[1][2][3] Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally they support ideas and programmes such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, free markets, civil rights, democratic societies, secular governments, gender equality and international cooperation...

What's the point ed? Generally, this must be about an agenda of a different stripe.

As I said many times nothing will change because the electorate expects unrealistic goals from their politicians. In essence everyone wants everything but pay for nothing expecting someone else to do the paying. Given that our population will never go into the streets en masse united all one can do is move someplace and pay into a system with both reasonable politicians and electorate which has realistic expectations based on what the system can afford.

craig: the point is that liberalism has been demeaned here and referred to as a mental disorder...if liberalism is about freedom, then how can it be a mental disorder?

I'm looking for place to retire to. When I find a good place I will let everyone know. One place I was thinking about is Ireland. They get good subsidies from the EU and the country is much closer to my homeland than USA or Canada. wink
