About 20 years ago, I was living and hunting in Kansas...while I was out hunting, I drove by a guy who was hunting with a flintlock...I stopped and watched him out of curiosity...perfect timing because he was walking in on a point...a covey of quail flushed and he shot...the largest cloud of smoke I�ve ever seen and then he shot again...I have no idea why he shot again, the smoke was so thick he couldn�t have possibly seen another bird to shoot.....I lost the guy in the cloud of smoke...when it was all over and the cloud had dissipated...he yelled over at me asking if I saw any of the quail drop. That wasn�t you was it, Joe??? :-)

I have a 16 bore percussion Manton. I used to hunt wild quail and learned to squat quickly after the shot. I could usually see the quail drop under the smoke if I hit it. Great fun on a dove field early season.

Not that time, LeFusil. But I have been in that position many times. When using black powder a hunting partner is indispensable to call the shots on birds. More than once I've taken a shot at a deer and immediately dropped to the ground trying to see under the smoke.
