Steven Dodd Hughes has a very nice article on our good friend Mike Orlen. Just got my latest copy and, seeing Mike's name, it was the first article I read. As Steve said, Mike has been a very good friend to us on this board, always free with his techniques and advice. If you need some shotgun bore work, check with him first. Thank you, Steve.

I heartily agree and salute Mike, once again, as a master.
One could not seek out a better barrelsmith nor a more generous gentleman.
Best,
John

Beyond barrel work, Mike did an excellent (and prompt) job of bending my Coggie from cast-on to cast-off.

SDH,
I sent Mike an old Rem. 11 barrel for dent removal. One week later I thought I should give him a call and see if I needed to send any additional money his way and ask if he could hot blue it when he was done. I left a message on his answering machine and went on my merry way. That afternoon UPS delivered my barrel with dent removed and hot blue completed. His one week turn around which included shipping time both ways is way above any other craftsman I have delt with. Great story in SSM and well deserved.
Best,
Ron

I feel like a dunce, but I cannot find the article. I would like to read it, since I have used Mike a number of times. I assume you are referring to the July/August issue, volume XIX, issue IV using their numbering system. Mr. Hughes has an article on p.34 entitled "A Higher Degree Of Finishing," and illustrates some nice color case work by the same finisher I always use, Color Case Co. in Ohio, but I don't see the mention of Mike in that article. Where is it, please? Pointed cap in hand awaiting your reply before I put in on.

Nope, September/October 2007, Volume XIX Issue V, page 36. Good write up.

Well, for some reason you guys are getting your magazines WAAAY before I am. I just got the July/August issue within the last week or so, so recently I have not yet read it all. Hey, this is July, so I figgered the July/August issue is right on time. I'll be watching for my September/October issue, hope it comes before September. These things usually get blamed on the infamous "Black Hole Of Atlanta" that all our mail has to pass through before going out to the second largest city in Georgia. O.K., at least I can put away the pointy cap, for now anyway.
