There is long story to Japanese 101s from Olin-Kodensha plant grounds of which now graces golf course if I remember correctly. They made neat guns like Parker Reproductions, Golden Eagle shotguns and rifles (one of the nicest Winchester rifles was Model 777 which came from there along with O/U rifles and combination guns). After Winchester-Kodensha demise there were nice Classic Doubles offerings which morphed into CT Valley Classics or something with similar name. The 96 was some kind of knockabout version of 101 made in Japan or perhaps even Spain (like Winchester Model 22 double). Sadly I know little about them and since Ole' Cowboy passed we don't seem to have anyone able to fill his shoes. There is bunch of knowledge guys at Winchester Shotguns on ShotgunWorld.com. You might get some more help there. Sorry I can't help more.
