I bought a 110 year old Saint Etienne 16 bore for her -beautiful. But on second thought had qualms about letting her shoot it, especially if she might shoot steel shot. I reason she needs a modern entry level sxs that looks good and is flexible as to cartridges and chokes. I'm really attracted to the CZ Huglu 20 bore Ringnecks with 28" barrels - case colored, sharp tailed with semi-beavertail forestocks. They are beautiful. I've had friends who have brought them back from Turkey over the last few years. CZ markets them and I think no longer brings in the 20 SxS's. But for $600-900 for virtually new or new stock guns with 5 chokes and a case, could I go wrong? (ok ok...actually I love that 16 bore)

Does she like SXSs? Does she like shotguns?
As far as the CZ Ringnecks go, I bought one way back in 2006 when you couldn't find them anywhere. I was curious what they were like so I ordered one off the net. I have shot it in the field and at clays but only about 500 rounds, because all the opinions got me worried it would start doubling or the firing pins would break. Other than my worrying it worked just fine. The trigger pulls are even very good! I haven't used it for a while though.

She shot her first clays with a SxS,1902 William Evans 20, and imprinted on that gun. For her, the slim lines of a SxS are as much of an artistic turn-on as the shooting itself. She is an excellent cook (and a medical doctor) who wants to cook what she shoots..but has to have something to accompany son, who uses an omg 870) - not an often occurrence but something that has to be planned for.
The new CZ's have changed the springs to coil, safety, etc. I'd feel confident giving it to her..unless there are are real horror stories. Seems like a good buy.

Good luck trying to slip a Ringneck by someone who imprinted on a William Evans. At best you’re on the hook for an Ahh Eee Ahh Number 2.

Er, she is a doctor, and we are speaking of Muslim guns?
Best, Ted

She might like the Cabela's/Dickinson Estate 20 gauge.

I wouldn't go as far as lonesome's notion of imprinting. Women seem more practical than men to me. I can't imagine a woman knowing the provenance who wouldn't want one of the best buys in used 20s, a SKB Model 500.

Come on dad, stick to the original plan and give her the 16. Maybe, you could think of the $750 you save on the Huglu as a good start on the next Saint Etienne you get to be on the look out for. Besides, the game dinners and memory pictures will be way more meaningful. She sounds like a million bucks, I'm sure she'd let you borrow it now and then.
