Howdy Y'all
I have a question on barrel markings
Both are marked 18.2 (16ga) but with a Mic. It is 20.3 at the chambers. I'll have to shift some pics to a webpage so humor me for a bit.

What about a measurement @ the muzzle? The 18.2mm you mention are probably taken @ 22cm from the breech?

Hello James
Welcome to the site on your first posting
Thank you for your service in our U.S. Navy!

Take a look at this chart
http://www.shotguns.se/html/france.html

Here are my 2 1/2 inch 12 gauge guns

Have you tried putting any ammo in the breech? What is the biggest gauge that will start in the chamber??

Mike

p.s. my bet is you have a 12 gauge 2 1/2" chambered shotgun

The French often stamped the finish bore size near the barrel flats. 18.2 and thereabouts is a 12 ga. A 16 is around 17mm, the French tubes (in my limited experience) having a tendency to be slightly over bored, at least in 16's; I have 5 sets of French 16 ga barrels, and they average about .669. And not to steal the thunder from Captain Obvious, the chamber will of course be larger than the bore, to accommodate the shell, and thus the need for a forcing cone.

James, French guns have widely varying values. Post some photos and I'll give you a ballpark value.
