I'm a NSCA member and a regular tournament shooter myself. I live in NSCA Zone 2. The Zone flyer came from M&M yesterday. I also like double gun shooting and I participate in many registered and non-registered events with SxS's. However, as Bill says, I usually don't use a SxS for the main event.
In case some of you haven't heard of M&M, it's in NJ a little southeast of Philly. I live near Rock Mountain myself and M&M is a 3+ hour drive, probably more this summer with all the road maintenance going on. What I'm saying is the locations are pretty far apart. The SxS event at M&M is just one of many they offer as part of the Zone 2 tournament. It's basically the same as the subgauges and pump gun events. M&M is well known amongst tournament shooters as a top quality club with excellent courses and targets.
Most of the NSCA shooters who do the SxS event at tournaments are serious competitors who shoot their primary gun (semi-auto or over/under) at the main event, also do the subgauges, 20, 28 and 410. The SxS event is just one of many that are offered to serious competition shooters at a lot of tournaments.
On the other hand, double gun fun shoots at excellent venues like Hausmann's Hidden Hollow and Rock Mountain are intended for a much larger segment of double gun shooters who enjoy the fun, comaraderie and a bit less intense competition.
The bottom line is there's a place for both types of events. You pay your money and you take your choice. I really doubt the date conflict on Saturday will force a significant percentage of shooters to make a difficult choice on where to go.
Mike, I think Bill's question about the make of car awarded for HOA at the SxS event at M&M is some of his wit coming out. As all of us know, you don't make any money or big prizes shooting anything, anywhere. Silvers
