Love those guns. I almost bought one from a dealer hear in central Pa eight or nine years ago. It had beautiful damascus barrels. The problem was that the barrels were so thin there was actually small dimples pushing out from the inside. I passed. I didn't record the serial number. Now I'm afraid to buy one with that one still out there. terc

I lost out on one on Gunbroker earlier this year. Wood wasn't as nice as the wood on mine. It had sleeved barrels, but the weight was a few ounces under 6 lbs. It was a nice looking gun and sold for $1000.00. Still kickin' myself in the rear on letting it sell that cheaply.

5lbs 3ozs? 12 gauge?
Oy. My aching retinas. Aren't you guys worried about detaching stuff when you shoot it?
Best, Ted

Ted: what you shoot is all up to you. I certainly would not feed it anything remotely warm. Maybe even 7/8s of an ounce going along quite moderately. It would still do the job quite nicely.
Thomas Turner lightweights were made very light in a number of ways it seems. I was told by an individual selling one that Turner even bored the barrels in a very specific way to save on weight as well. As he described it to me, most of the tube is effectively a "jug" choke. This made the barrels somewhat hard to clean effectively, leading to significant pitting issues in most every one I ever got to consider.

I did once see one; a hammer gun, with the name Holland & Holland on it so I guess Turner must have produced some for other 'Gunmakers' to put their name to. I have a very early Turner with a grip safety. Just a standard weight type gun but exceptionally well made. Lagopus.....

RST makes low pressure 3/4 oz. loads for 12 ga. No detached retinas but don't get attached to what's in your wallet. Back many moons ago I reloaded 12 gauge for a 12 year-old boy and used 3/4 oz. of lead. He shot an old gas operated Beretta that I had cut the stock to fit him. He was deadly with it on doves. I shot the same load out of my 3200 at dove and it was quite pleasant to shoot at early season birds. Shot like a 28 ga., but carried like an 8 lb. 12, which it was. Gil

Lucky for me I don't live near the Cotswold Gun Room. There are so many nice looking hammergun for sale there. That Grant side lever always peaks my interest.

Gun #53 on page three of his listings is also a Turner, but a sidelock with dropped edges. Also of note, gun #50 is King George V's hammer gun. I do enjoy looking over his inventory from time to time myself!
